Seemed like a good thing to blog about.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phone-based:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turning Technologies has physical clickers and smart-phone clickers<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.turningtechnologies.ca\/<br \/>\nIf you are using a textbook from Nelson or Pearson there might be a chance that you could get the software and base for free from them &#8212; but the students would have to pay. ITS&#8217; AV Services also have around 50 of these for sign-out.<\/li>\n<li>Top Hat Monocle<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.tophatmonocle.com\/<br \/>\nUses phones, laptops, etc. and they are always keen to do a demo.<\/li>\n<li>Poll Everywhere<br \/>\nhttp:\/\/www.polleverywhere.com<br \/>\nIs free for under 40 people\u00c2\u00a0but gets expensive as numbers are added.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>iOS-based:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Socrative\u00c2\u00a0http:\/\/www.socrative.com\/<\/li>\n<li><em id=\"__mceDel\">Flexible and free. Waiting for other shoe to drop. What Mr. Clare Sr. uses.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Web\/Smart-phone based:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mentimeter\u00c2\u00a0https:\/\/www.mentimeter.com\/<br \/>\nIt is new and promises to be free, but I have not used it.<\/li>\n<li>mqlicker http:\/\/www.mqlicker.com\/<br \/>\nis new and promises to be free, but I have not used it.<br \/>\nA Brock University Economics prof really liked this option<\/li>\n<li>Not free at all is:\n<ul>\n<li>http:\/\/answerqwik.com\/ I haven&#8217;t used it, but they seem serious.<\/li>\n<li>OMBEA ResponseApp http:\/\/www.ombea.com\/products\/ombea-responseapp\/<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Also:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then the Chronicle of Higher Ed. has some quick idea for low-tech clickers:<br \/>\nhttps:\/\/chronicle.com\/blogs\/profhacker\/low-tech-alternatives-to-clickers\/34184<\/p>\n<p><strong>Live classroom interaction, polling, chat&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Piazza\u00c2\u00a0https:\/\/piazza.com\/\n<p>Piazza allows for large groups to ask questions and vote up the important ones. It is a very interesting way to get feedback in a large class. It is free and has an LTI integration that the CPI can add to any Isaak\/Sakai site. \u00c2\u00a0It surprises me how often instructors interested in &#8220;simple&#8221; polling like the realtime feedback Piazza gives.<\/li>\n<li>More survey &amp; marketing style\u00c2\u00a0http:\/\/www.signalhq.com\/<br \/>\nSignal &#8211; good buzz (possibly for the API) with a free trial<\/li>\n<li>Shared Sticky notes\u00c2\u00a0http:\/\/listhings.com\/<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s my list. \u00c2\u00a0It&#8217;s just the notes I&#8217;ve been keeping, but hopefully it helps someone else.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some notes on physical and virtual\u00c2\u00a0classroom &#8220;clickers&#8221; that I&#8217;ve maintained in Evernote over the years and shared a few times.
